Grinding the topping for this savory snack—a great prep step for preschoolers—helps it stick to the popcorn. Be warned that it’s so tasty you may want to keep the first batch for yourselves! Makes 12 cups.
2 tablespoons nutritional yeast flakes
3 teaspoons dried dill
¾ teaspoon onion powder
1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
¾ teaspoon garlic powder
3/8 teaspoon smoked paprika
4 teaspoons olive oil
12 cups plain popped popcorn, about ½ cup unpopped kernels (try find locally grown kernels at your co-op or supermarket)
Use a mortar and pestle to grind the first 6 ingredients into a powder.
Place 2 teaspoons and half of the popcorn into a zip-top bag. Seal the bag and shake the popcorn to coat it with the oil. Add half the spice mixture, seal the bag, and shake once more to coat. Transfer the popcorn to a bowl. Repeat the coating steps with the remaining ingredients. Place the popcorn in candy bags and seal with washi tape or ribbon.
