Fresh turmeric root
Freeze ginger root in a ziplock bag overnight. This not only preserves the ginger for months in the freezer, it makes it easy to grate.
Carefully peel and julienne the turmeric root with a sharp paring knife. (Wear gloves: The root will dye your hands yellow.) Grate ginger. Use about ¼ cup turmeric and ½ cup of grated ginger per 750 milliliters of vodka.
Add turmeric and ginger to vodka and infuse for 4–7 days. Strain, cap, and enjoy within 6 months.
